A Great Lesson!

Ria was extremely angry with her mom before she left for school. Her mom had scolded her unnecessarily for her little brother’s mistake. He had lost her notebook and now her mother was scolding her, saying that it was all her fault. So she went to school with a sour mood.

She didn’t talk to her mom even when she returned home from school that day. Her mother apologized (which was very rare) but Ria still didn’t agree. This was the third day after her fight and it was the History period going on in her class. Suddenly she was called by the principal to immediately leave for home. Ria was really taken aback but at the same time she was very glad too for not having to suffer from that horrible history lecture.

How did she know that she had a terrible surprise waiting for her at home? Her father was in tears when she reached home. “Oh dear”, he gasped, “Ria you were angry with your mom. Weren’t you? But now you can’t be angry with her anymore as she.,…..she….” he burst into tears before saying anymore.

Ria’s mom had cancer and had died hours after Ria had angrily left for school. Her last words were, “Sorry Ria”. She had died apologizing to her daughter. Ria couldn’t believe her ears. She felt as if the whole world had tumbled down upon her. She could not control the tears that flowed continuously down her cheeks. “Oh!”, she cried why did I act so insolently towards her?”.

A lesson that she learnt from this turning point in her life was that always love your dear ones, because you never know if they’ll be there when you furiously return home. Being furious with someone doesn’t always help. Cherish their sweet memories and adore them! Hope you’ll understand!

Hi Meghna,
You gave a tragic ending to the story? Brilliant writing. As you implied, people always learn something from the past experience of theirs or others. Wee said! Keep it up, girl.
