Shimmer Oh Candlelight Shimmer

Candle
Shimmer Oh candlelight shimmer

Though darkness and you shine
There is a faint glow but no light
The darkness dims but never vanishes
What happened to you- who does with all thy might?

Shimmer Oh candlelight shimmer

Your light flickers and dims
No idea what is happening
I stare longingly but the flames fly
As if far away a cry is calling

Shimmer Oh candlelight shimmer

All through a strong wind blows
You keep your might
But flicker…..
When will things get right?

Shimmer Oh candlelight shimmer

Then no longer can you bear
And you die away
What remains is only smoke
Though a flicker of hope still may…..

Shimmer Oh candlelight shimmer

Wish you a very Happy New Year :D

ummm.....remember??

Pages From A Diary

Diary
12th November, 2008

I'm back from college. Being there made me homesick. So I'm rushing back to Mumbai- to my house, my family, my people and my love. My bliss and overwhelming sense of relief is certainly taking hold of me, coz though I'm exhausted, the excitement brimming inside me, cannot let me sleep. I'm writing from the plane right now, and am not worried about my co-passenger asking me what I’m doing, because he's a 60 year old man, sound asleep now (I can see him drooling-eeeewwww). I cannot stop dreaming of Mom's wonderful vadaa pao and daddy's hearty laugh.

13th November, 2008

I'm at home now and sitting in my good old' room. Nothing has been moved since I left. My miniature car collection is still there and hey....there's the cute superman model. My comics are staked in the drawer too. I fell my childhood coming back. Today I'm going to meet some of my old friends at the Taj Hotel which is a ten step walk from home. It's a party there.

17th November, 2008

I just cannot content myself with the hours I spend on mom's laps or discussing matters with daddy We all went to our farmhouse today.

Oh! How I love my family.

20th November, 2008

I'm leaving for Chennai today. Am really sad to leave mom and dad for even a day. It's a week actually. I'll be back on 27th. It is for a friends wedding, one i cannot leave. Mom and I went shopping and we bought some really good clothes for me. On my insistence, she also chose a wonderful saree.

I bid goodbye but still dream of them.

Oh come on boy! You'll be back in week and there still is the phone.

25th November, 2008

I just talked to mom and dad. They are going for an anniversary party tomorrow at Taj. Whew.....finally. After I left for college, mom and dad had shunned their social life. After two years, it is now that they have finally agreed to go to a social gathering. Guess what? Mom is going to wear the new saree we bought.

27th November, 2008

.................Serial Blasts Mumbai..............

All is over, I have no family left..............

Note: This is an imaginary journal (my fictional creation) of a 18 year old guy. I don't think there is need to say more. If the terrorists do not have a heart of iron or stone, they might have realized what atrocities have been faced by others, reading umpteen articles like these.

P.S- Have a Merry Christmas guys!

EXAMS- The Night Before

ExAmS!!! OMG! The word’s always troubling me. With most of the Indian Council Of Secondary Education (ICSE and ISC) exams around the corner, or at least pre-boards and I guess other exams too, this looks like the exam season.

Okay, my exams are in March but my brother is having his right now. That’s why it’s all in the air. One thing, and I am not boasting or anything please….I’m just telling the blatant truth. I am a real lazy and hardly studying kinda gal. As you see, net and reading bestsellers is my only passion. But still, I attain 90% marks and a respectable rank among the top five intelligentsia! Dun ask me how.

Okay fine...ask??? The answer is the saving grace, my guardian angel- THE NIGHT BEFORE. Yep. I dunno if I’m brainier or something, I usually pull up 4 chapters in Biology, 3 in History and 7 in Hindi, through the night. Now now.....don'tcha raise that brow!

So being an expert (not boasting again) I’d like to share some really good tips that have helped me and are guaranteed to help you too. Here goes:

1. A Steaming Cup Of Good Hot Coffee- Yea! That’s a must. I usually do that Coffeebefore going through the ordeal of pulling an all nighter. It rejuvenates you and if not giving you some strength to retain your sleepy head, it sure gives you mental courage! And yes, my hot favorite is one with loads of chocolate topping on it!

2. Take breaks- Every 2 or1 hour, take a break between your studies. I usually set a target before taking a break. But don’t overdo it. Take a break for only fifteen minutes and please…please….for god’s sake do not doze off, and then blame me for the idea. Try doing something interesting in between.

3. Play Pranks- This is an idea for a break you take. You have a sibling? A roommate? Or a cute and sweet mom? Please beware of Dad’s though. Okay, the idea is to arm yourself with a black marker and put your creativity to work. ( Very good for those who are gonna have an art examLOL!) Make cat whiskers to your li’ brother or sister, a sweet moustache to your mom and scary eyebrows to your elder siblings. Enjoy the night !

Note: I do not take any bouquets or brickbats for the scolding or beatings you might receive. Please try at your own risk.

Dancing

4. A Dancing Break- Have an i-pod or MP3? Put it to use. Listen to hard rock and pop music and dance to it. Yea. It will refresh you and then….GET BACK TO WORK, dear!

5. Make a definite schedule for the night- As you see timetables for future goals, you need to do it here too. Remember, there are not many hours. Divide the time-slots according to the number of portions you have to study.

6.Gaming- Have a tryst with your video game too. Sure it’ll help, until your mom or dad come to know! LOL! Use internet for good games too.

Sleeping

7. Beware of lullabies- They are sure to get you sleeping. Try not to listen to slow or soft music even if they tempt you.

In the end, splash loads of water to keep you awake. Plus, do remember not to be awake after 4 am, if you sat all night, you’ll doze off while writing the exam. You need to sleep in the afternoon too. Remember to have at least five hours of sleep during your exam week, eight hours on holidays in between and eighteen hours after that!!

NOTE: Please do not give comments telling me waking up all night is bad, coz I’ve already heard loads from mum and dad so I’m trying hard to let go of the habit. Also, try not to sleep while writing exam.

In the end….STUDY STUDY STUDY! And live if you can :P

Best Post of 2008

With New Year and my Birthday (remember?) around the corner, I'm as busy as a bee. So I sincerely appologise for the dwindling comments and my creative writing posts. With loads of functions in the school and my locality, I cannot get enough time.

Nevertheless, Joanna at Confident Writing gave me a very good idea for a post to end this year with. With new year around the corner and loads to be hoping for next year, I decided it was time for me to find the best post of this year.

Okay, it’s really difficult for all my posts are my darlings, but  I can confer the award of "The Best Post Of 2008", only to one post.

I’m confused between three posts actually, one is The Murder, a humorous story which most enjoyed. The next is The Battle, which is also on similar lines. And third is The Pain Of Love, which involved readers participation by giving a title.

Finally I decided on The Battle.

Best Post of 2008

This post is simply the best because, this is different with a deceiving look in the beginning and a hilarious twist at the end. It holds a soft corner in my heart, for it‘s beautifully expressed too.

Those who haven’t read it, no need to rummage through my archive. Just click HERE.

Do read and leave comments. And thanks once again Joanna. It’s great to be a part of your group project!

Join - Tweet A Book!

Tweet A Book
Twitter??? What, that eh? Ever heard about it?

Twitter is a wonderful microblogging platform. I am sure all of you will agree to that if you join in (or if you are already there too!). As you know, I'm an avid user of Twitter too.

Now, with the holidays round the corner, I'm planning to start a new writing project in twitter- Tweet A Book. As it is a new unique and innovative concept, I'm sure all of you would be interested. So, here it goes:

The Concept:

To write a mini-book or novelette (or even a full-length book) COMPLETELY as a series of 140-characters (or less) tweets... on Twitter!

How to start:
  • Anyone can join in. Just sign up on Twitter and follow @Tweet_A_Book, so I'll know who's in.
  • If you're already on Twitter, to keep your "Tweet A book" project distinct from your regular Twitter account, it is recommended that you register a new one for this project e.g. with your user name being '(YourName) Writes', or '(YourName) TweetBook', or anything else you like. By the way, I started mine as @MeghnaWrites.

What is to be done?

The idea is to write a book. It can be a short story, long story, novelette or novel. This can be fiction, non-fiction, poetry or anything interesting you feel like.

How to write it?

Whenever an idea for a story or anything comes to your mind, post it as a tweet in your new Tweet A Book account. Then you need to develop that sole idea into a story. Then continue psoting your story/book as a series of tweets. That's all.

Any conditions?

Just one. Each tweet should stand alone as a separate post/message of 140 characters, which means you can't pause in the middle of a long sentence and continue it in the next tweet!

Any fee to join?

No, it's completely free!!

What do I get out of it?

No promises, but we'll try to get the collection of completed novelettes printed by a publishing house (if it is good enough) or at least distribute it as an ebook, making you famous even if not rich!

Period of Tweet A Book project:

From 21st Decemebr to 31st December, 2008

When do I get started?

The event begins on Dec.21st - But be an early bird, register now and get to work planning your content.

By when does the book have to be done?

The New Year Eve. December 31st is when this year ends - and along with it, the 'Tweet A Book' project too.

How many people are participating?

Not sure yet, but we're hoping to have dozens, if not hundreds!

Can I team up with my friend(s) to participate?

Yes, as long as you're collaborating on the same story, that's fine with me.

Any prizes?

Maybe. Again, no promises - but if we find sponsors, we might throw in a few nice gifts for those who write the most popular book - and everyone who finishes theirs too!

How am I managing this?

No, I'm not alone here. Dr. Mani is in for managing the things. You may see his twitter account to know more.

Got any more questions?

Post it here as a comment and I'll answer it.

Now, tell me, isn't it easy and interesting? Are you in it?

Note: As I waste lots of my time in twitter, you may follow me @MeghnaK

The Blogging Idol Contest

Okay guys, time to update you all about the Blogging Idol Competition I was participating in. The contest where I reached out to all my readers for help.

Meghna - The Blogging Idol Contest

The Result

It's over now and the results are out. It was a wonderful competition in full swing with healthy competitive spirit. Though I could not finally become the winner, I enjoyed every bit of it and learnt loads with every move and other participants. During the competition, I also met many new and interesting people too!

Okay, if you remember, there were 2 parts. - One to increase the RSS subscribers and the second was the open voting round.

Now, about my standing. I came 19th in the RSS round out of 125 well deserving competitors and 5th in the open voting round!

Yippppeee......

You might be thinking why I'm happy, eh?? Cause I think I did as best as I could and the people who came in the top three were too much deserving. I felt like a winner myself.

It's actually a good standing, with me being the youngest and guess the most amateur too. I really felt like I've won, so no qualms there. Though, I am determined to work hard and obtain better results next season!

Sincere Thanks to All of You:

And not to forget…. all you guys out there w

ho read my blog and voted or subscribed. Without your help, this would not have been possible! I had asked for help and it was most pleasant to see the co-operation of all readers and good friends.

It was most unexpected on my part, actually! I did not expect the tremendous result I got from you people to maintain a standing amidst the professionals in the competition!

I will never ever be able to express my thanks to you guys in mere words (:HUGS:)

Thank you all.

Love

Meghna

A Special Thanks

I'm back again with this post to thank a very special person, for whom words of earnest gratitude have always been etched in my mind.

If you are not aware, I am an active member of Twitter. This is my twitter profile. (By the way, with more than 700 followers, I'm the 5th popular Twitter Elite in India, as assessed byTwitter Grader. WOW!!)

Through this network of people, I made friends with a commendable person called Dr. Mani. Dr.Mani is a heart surgeon living in India. He treats little children born with congenital heart defects.

As you know, heart surgery is expensive and many of his patients, from poor families, cannot afford the cost of treatment. So Dr.Mani is working hard at raising funds for them.

Dr. Mani and his team began their journey in 1996. Ten years later, his team has raised over $100,000 and funded heart surgery in 23 children, with many more to follow. He's well on his way to achieve an ambitious mission - make high quality heart health care accessible and affordable to every Indian child.

And if you too would like to help, please visit his website- Money.Power.Wisdom

Why do I talk about him, eh? He is the most caring, generous, passionate person I've ever met! Even before the start of the Blogging Idol Competition ( the one I was participating in and had written a post for help) he had declared me as THE BLOGGING IDOL. He helped me tremendously during this competition by sending mails to friends, writing posts on his ever popular blog and all other ways possible. He even set up a twitter challenge for me!

I deeply, and sincerely extend my gratitude to him.....though I know the words I say are far least for the help he has given. The only gift that I can give him is his indelible memories that will always be etched in my mind!

He helped me out a lot and motivated this young soul. How To Win Always is a must-read and the most inspiring post I've ever read! He is the person, who had not seen me even once but made a difference to my life and thinking, by reaching out with his ever warm helping hand.

Once again, I profoundly and earnestly thank Dr.Mani for his help and guidance.

Tonight

The Night Sky

Lying on my back and watching the starry sky, words crept into my mind and VOILA! out emerged these verses! Hope you enjoy this short poem.

Tonight is the very night
You and I unite

Glint in the eyes
And stars in the sky
I've been waiting for this
Ever since we last cried.

For tonight is the very night
You and I unite

The moon shines bright
The leaves on trees sway
The lapping of the river
The games that nature play

For tonight is the very night
You and I unite

I'll look at you,
You'll look at me
And bliss overwhelms us
And everything will be alright

For tonight is the very night
You and I unite

The clock strikes twelve
It is past midnight
I slowly creep to the lonely woods
And wait there while the hungry jackals fight

For tonight is the very night
You and I unite

It's four hours….then seven
No sight of you around the darkness drawn
I stifle back a tear
And walk the lonely path forlorn

For tonight WAS the very night
You and I WERE to unite…….

My sincere prayers for my friends all around India, especailly in MUMBAI or areas around. May all Indains unite and fight back against this terrror. I'm praying hard for all :(

Meghna Who?

Meghna Who.jpg

OMG!!! I think somebody wrote my obituary!! LOL!

Miss Meghna passed away recently following an unbearable surge of creativity not able to be sustained. Meghna was not afraid to die. She just didn't want to be there when it happened.

Miss Meghna was born in India. She did extremely well in studies and was an out-standing student always. When Meghna was born, peope were surprised that she didn't talk for a year and a half. Later, she became a big chatterbox, so till she was eleven, she always thought her name was, "Shut Up!".

She hated Maths and History. She found obvious as the most dangerous word in Maths. For her, History repeated itself, as she never listened the first time (she dozed off!). Nevertheless, Miss Meghna passed twelfth grade with flying colors. She became a Doctor soon. She left for work at noon to beat the morning rush!

She took up freelance writing with the hope of publishing a novel soon. With a pen and diary in hand, she took to creativity craziness soon early. During surgeries in the Operation Theater, she would jump suddenly crying- "EurekaEureka….I found a suitable name for my character."

Meghna was a bit weird actually, wearing mismatched socks and hair tangled all over. She did not like taking a bath and hated milk. Her obsession for fiction novels knew no bounds. The best life she liked was lying on a cozy bed with a good book, and chocolates and lemon drink by the bedside with i-pod plugged on.

She always ate the dessert first, as she believed in eating the ice-cream before it melts, for life is too unsure. She liked bikes without breaks. She was a big prankster who loved playing jokes on others.

She got hooked on to the internet and blogging pretty early in her life and made a memorable journey. Along the way, she made many friends and well-wishers who should be invited to her funeral . She had always wanted to win the Blogging Idol competition.

After Meghna's death, her wishes are to be followed strictly. According to her will:

  • All her money should be divided equally between all her blog readers.
  • Her doctor's coat and equipments should go to her parents for remembrance and all other personal belonging should be buried with her, including her chocolates and pen/diary.
  • She wants everyone to celebrate each and every Birthday of hers after death. Every birthday, her grave should be decorated with balloons and streamers.
  • Her grave should be surrounded by gamaxine powder (ant repellent), so as to keep those tiny creatures away as they might be lured by the galore of sweets.
  • No one should offer flowers at her grave but chocolates and ice creams.
  • Her novel or blog ideas are strictly copyrighted and should not be copied.
  • She should be allowed to rest in peace but no one shedding tears. If anyone wanted to cry on her death, he/she is forbidden to do so, but can eat a chocolate or ice-cream instead.
  • Some money she learnt should be given to blogger or wordpress to improve their services and also to the television channels in India who have no better work.
  • Another part of the amount earned should be donated to the Mental Asylum where she could not be treated.
  • On her tombstone should be embedded the words, "Meghna who?"

Keep silent near her grave, for she may come back to life soon then!

Anything you got to add?

The Modern Punishment For Students

The Modern Punishment For Students
Flipping through the newspaper is an old habit of mine. And at times, it very beneficial too. If you remember my earlier post-What A Unique Way To Honor Students!, where I told you all about eco-friendly rewards for brilliant students, here is another quite fascinating information similar to that.

Yes, this is an interesting news I read, and mind you, when I say interesting, I mean it....so chill, coz I am not taking about any sensex downfall or something LOL!

The latest news is that in Agra, known for its eternal beauty and peace, The Taj Mahal, a school has decided to abide to its culture and give it's students a punishment as peaceful and beautiful as that. Don't believe? Read on and you'll know.

Down the bin go those old punishment rules of beating, caning, standing out and all, for 166-year old St. Peter's College has decided a beneficial punishment for students, YOGA!!!

Yes, yoga. That's the new in-thing punishment, and I have to agree with the principal of the college, John Fareira, that it is a kind of guru-cool punishment indeed!

It includes pranayam and other postures. This is indeed one of the greatest punishment I can think of, and hope it is implemented in all schools around the world. Not only will it help the students, but the peace of mind may help them critically analyze and understand their mistake.

This school has also gone a step further by getting rid all junk food and colas in the school canteen. Usually students not obeying or not finishing their work do yoga but occasionally when the whole class is creating some trouble, they all have to do pranayam for 10 minutes.

The principal has noble thoughts as he wants the children to be focused and disciplined and therefore emphasizes on yoga.

So what say guys?? Doesn't this health oriented punishment rock??

Count Your Blessings

This is an inspirational short story, probably not fictional. It is the story about a girl who learns a valuable lesson in life, by reading a small note by one of her friends. Do have a read, for I am certain it will inspire you to have a positive outlook towards life!

Count Your Blessings!

Count Your Blessings- A Short Story

She looked around until she saw the last light in the kitchen being switched off. Then she comforted herself and let the soothing serenity encompass her in the darkness all around.

Then she slowly sat up in bed, cautious not to make a sound. As soon as she was comfortable in her position, she buried her head in her hands and started grumbling under her breath, her grumbles slowly turning into sobs and then into full fledged tears.

Leela was the only daughter of a middle class family and went to a flamboyant school and was provided with everything her parents could afford, toiling day and night for their child's happiness.

But unfortunately, this was her daily routine. Leela knew that everyone in her school brought mobiles, i-pods, i-phones or atleast an MP3, but she could afford none. She grumbled and complained to Lord vehemently blaming Him for giving her birth in such a downtrodden family.

She asked God why her parents didn't understand she needed these things and why they scolded her even if she asked them to buy it. She then scolded Lord for giving her such dispassionate parents who did not care about her at all.

Then she scolded and complained to Lord on the food she had eaten and the shabby dresses she wore. Her friends ate lavish dinners and she had to do with only a plate of poor rice and pulses. Her classmates wore lovely dresses and she walked around in tatters compared to them.

Though her dresses were lovely and her food was tasty, though she had at least a computer and a digital camera. Leela was still complaining. She was never satisfied and thus it became her daily routine to loath Lord for even sending her to Mother Earth's lap.

She went on to point out why she could not go shopping daily, why her parents scolded her for getting poor grades, why she could not go to the amusement park, and so inked her thoughts to Lord and wrote a long long list of her complaints.

The next day she woke up, despondent and still lamenting over herself. Her thougths were engaged in herself, in solitary and forlorn poignancy; she lived a life aloof from others.

That very day when she was going to enter the class, her eyes fell on a note outside her class. It was a collage by one of the students; mostly those who did not care but copied it from the net just to please the teachers and do their (ever-so-boring) duty. Leela took a step forward and read the chart. It said:

GOD IS ONE. It does not matter whether you pray to Allah, Jesus, Krishna or Raam.....all that matters is whether you thank HIM.

Count Your Blessings Every Night, for Lord has taken out time for you from the millions of people whom he has to care for and given you what he could. Look around and see those whom he has not blessed as much as you, and feel lucky. Look at those whom he has showered his blessing upon, much more than you, and make up your mind to work hard and earn those blessings from Lord.....Thank HIM but never complain to him....for Lord might also get angry and take away even what you have.

Feel Lucky and Blessed...for if there is no one, there is Lord. Count You Blessings and you will realize there is more to thank Lord for, than to complain.

Leela read over the note atleast thrice before going for the first class. Then she read it every time she moved out of class or entered. Then she gave it a final thorough reading before going home, as if her eyes and heart just could not digest what she read.

That night she tried it out and realized that it worked. And then she did it every night. She thanked God for at least giving her such parents who lived only for her, atleast giving her clothes that she wore for there were any who got none, atleast giving her food that she could eat for there were loads who did not even get a morsel a day; giving her everything that she had and asked Lord only for one thing....blessings in the form of strength and will power so she could work hard and achieve what she had not!

RSS is a technology that is being used by millions of web users around the world to keep track of their favorite websites. You can read more about RSS at the ProBlogger site.
