The Land Of Paper People

“Hurry up! I can’t really wait so long to explore this house”, shouted the excited Mak to his elder sister Maria. “Coming, a minute please” replied Maria. Mak & Maria are twins aged 10. Mak is taller and stronger than Maria and thus more obstinate. They both have just moved into the countryside and have now bought a great old house as their abode. Their parents are unpacking the belongings and so Mak & Maria believe this is the right opportunity to explore this house.

“We’ll be back in an hour, Mom”, shouts Maria running as fast as her legs could carry her. With her long hair tied in a pony she is exhausted when she reaches the old staircase where the burly Mak is scowling at her for coming so late. Soon thereafter they started exploring the house and decided to start with this old staircase. “Ah!”, says Mak “that fifth stair looks a bit weird and out of place. Isn’t it a bit strange?” But Maria had already started the race to that step. Mak followed close in track. As soon as they both were standing on it, Mak said the first word that came into his mind “Swoosh!”

Unexpectedly the stair began to shrink and suddenly it disappeared. Now the kids were standing on a strange green grass looking as if it was colored by some small child in green crayons, but the only difference was that the portrait was alive. With their eyes almost falling out, the children stared at the scene around them.

All around them were people made of paper!! There was a paper-mom who was leaving her small paper-kids at a paper school and buying some groceries too. There were various people around them, made only and only of paper.

Suddenly a young paper-boy came running towards them. He was dead scared and words came slowly trembling out of his mouth. He said, “I’m the king of paper-land. Welcome. We are in great trouble. Ah! There comes the monster scissors!”

Soon enough they saw a large, menacing scissors coming towards the town. It was taking undue advantage of its strength, creating a trouble wherever it went! It was cutting down the paper-trees, crushing the buildings and creating terror. As soon as they saw it Mak shouted at it. Like most of the bullies the scissors was scared when it saw a stronger human than himself and so he ran away.

Full of gratitude, the kind and delicate paper-people thanked them. The king told them his problem about how his land and its inhabitants were being troubled by this cruel and pernicious monster scissors. It was after the life of his people.

The king said “You are the only people who can help us in destroying the monster scissors. I will be full of gratefulness if you help us”.

Mak & Maria decided to help these kind souls. They hatched a plot to destroy the monster scissors. Mak had some matchboxes in his pocket. He used this to burn the house of the monster scissors. Soon the house was devoured by large flames and they could hear the screams of monster scissors that was also burnt along with the house.

The paper-people now had a great feast in the joy for destroying their long last enemy. They graced Mak & Maria. After promising to come back again, the kids departed for their enchanted house!

This is one of my efforts on fantasy writing. Hope you adore it!

Dear Meghna,
Though the language is expressive, the story as such doesn't convey much....
