A Silly Tale

Rock Concert

The music was blaring, the heads were swinging, long locks were flying, the people were shouting and amidst this, I felt the indistinct vibration of my mobile phone in my pocket….

“Oho”, mumbled, and fished out my phone amidst the tangle of elbows and limbs.

The screen blared showing that it was an SMS from Ronny, my best buddy.

Somehow, I managed to move out of the avalanche of swinging bodies and zestfully shouting youths. When I was in a secluded corner, I clicked the keys and watched my mobile screen in anticipation.

The message said:

Hey……I’ve been ringing you up since an hour but no response. Where are you?

Anyways, forget where you are coz…..

You’ll never believe what just happened to me!!!!

My brows raised in anticipation. I quickly typed back a reply.

Ronny bro, I’m at the U2 concert I was telling you about. The ticket cost me 1000 bucks but I finally got it. The show’s going great. But what happened to YOU?

I clicked the send button, and turned my head towards the stage. There was full on music and fun, no eyes on me, everyone glued to the band.

My mobile vibrated again. A message..... I clicked the view option with much vigor.

You just need come by my place….

NOW!! Or it’ll be too late.

“What?” I shouted. “Oho, doesn’t he understand? I spent 1000 bucks to be here, and I’m enjoying it. Plus the money I spent on parking and drinks. It cost me much, and to top it all, this is the recession season.”

Damn. He’s a buddy, so I’ll go.

I turned one wistful eye towards the band and let my ear sweep in as much melodies as it could, and then turned away and walked to find my car in the jam packed parking lot.

My silver Volvo was visible and I jumped in and drove at whatever speed I could permit my dizzy mind. It was 10 pm, what was it with Ronny?

I took a sharp turn and finally reached his house. He lived in a run down apartment as a paying guest. It was certainly a shabby place. I parked my Volvo downstairs and rushed to the second floor.

I pushed at the door, and got a stingy surprise. It was closed, so I hurt my limbs. I then patiently got down to pressing the doorbell.

I heard Ronny shabby flipons banging on the floor, as he rushed to open the door.

The door finally opened, and he beamed in ecstasy, as a small baby who got the best gift. His strong arms pushed me in, and he took me to his room.

The lights were off, so he asked me to close my eyes. When the lights were switched on and I heard some frenzied noises of making some arrangements in the room, he finally allowed me to open my eye. My eyes almost popped out at what I saw.

There sat, in front of me, in a large pot, a tomato plant that I and Ronny had planted together last week. Today, there were some bright red balls, as on a jokers nose, on it. Two small tomatoes!!

“Isn’t it great?” Ronny watched my face in anticipation.

My fury rose up the meter as I heard this. I wasted some beautifully spent 1000 bucks, a good quantity of petrol…..and why? Just to watch two silly tomatoes at 11 pm?

I turned towards Ronny, but when I saw his childlike grin and bubbly face, my anger melted. After all, this is what friends were for. Isn’t it? I remembered times, when Ronny had paid for my tickets at PVR and times when he bought me coffee and drinks. Times we had spent together is bliss.

He was my BUDDY!

I finally faked a smile in return………

My Journey Through Fire-II

Fire

Now comes the second part of the story which you all have been awaiting. I hope you enjoy it and find it another of my liked adventures on MINSY- My Magical Bed. If you have not read the first part, you can read it here- My Journey Through Fire-I. Enjoy!

The look of astonishment on my face on hearing Fireprobe's words soon changed to hunger and I asked him to summon anything that tasted good. Fireprobe did so and very soon, the food arrived. The plates were same as the floor, in different geometrical shapes.

The food was delicious and nothing like I had tasted before. I just cannot describe how well they tickled my taste buds! Then Fireprobe put some kind of rectangular boxes on the table. These boxes were flat and as I later learnt, were their currency (money). One could not leave or the hotel would not leave us actually, until you paid the money.

Soon we were out into the open once again, this time a

t a different place. This was some kind of an amusement park or playing ground. All around, I could see Sycs, smaller than Fireprobe and in different colors, playing in bowls (yeah literally, like the ones we have on Earth), plates, spoons shoes etc.

Fire Girl

Fireprobe said, "Our kids here play on the things that humans from Earth throw into the fire. We eat paper which they burn and all other edible things. I think we owe all our gratitude to people like you, Robtee"

Hearing this, I suddenly burst our laughing. After I controlled myself I asked Fireprobe if they had a clothes shop here and he told me they didn't need it for they were born with different colors on themselves. The wood on which we burn fire, each time gives rise to a new Sycs.

Curious to know more, I asked Fireprobe about himself. He told me that he himself was a non-living, made-by-Sycs techo which were called fireprobes. They were created to help the Sycs find where the humans were burning things and where new Sycs were being created. Often if a human put his hand into the fire, it was Fireprobe who would push it out. (Got a correction there in the Biology book- they say it's OUR brain....now I know HA!). He told me that each fireprobe lived only for three days and this was his last day.

Suddenly surprised and sad, I took him into my hands from the floating air. I felt really bad for him and was going to say something when I heard........

"TRINGGGGGGGGGGGGGG" . Ah, Minsy, this is the time I hated her for bringing me back! But you know what? When I felt in my hands, I felt something.....it was Fireprobe. He had diminished in size, the size of my small finger and was no more speaking.

I looked at him and smiled....this was another souvenir from my adventures in a magical world. I carefully placed him into the drawer, next to all other magical gifts I possessed, and gleefully jumped off the bed to get dressed for school.

Guys......please tell me how you liked it and is it any worthy of me to write more of my adventures on MINSY? I surely enjoy reading your comments and if you haven't yet read the first part, please read it here- My Journey Through Fire-I

My Journey Through Fire - I

My Journey Through Fire

I hope you all do remember that I have been writing my magical bed adventure series of stories. For those who do not remember, the secret is that I have a magical bed and as soon as I am tucked into my bed, I am drifted off to a faraway magic land...... ( ADITTION TO THIS PART- I've named my Magical Bed "MINSY"). Don't you worry! I have given links to previous posts at the end of this story :)

One of my recent experiences was my journey through FIRE, the first part of which is narrated here.

Fire, the word and particularly that miracle has always aroused my curiosity and generated interest inside. I lay in bed thinking of it, when my Magical Bed (I have now named it "MINSY") obliged me by taking me on a tour to the most unexpected, unusual, yet exciting of all places. Yes inside FIRE!

The initial entrance gave me goose bumps. My Bed took me to a forest amidst the cold dark night. I looked around but saw nothing, expect the scary darkness that encompassed me. Suddenly, as if out of nowhere, I saw a fire ignited right under my nose, and miraculously, it soothed my cold and numb veins but did not give me the common sensation of feeling as if I am burning, even when the fire was right under my nose, so very near.

Then my bed held me tight actually it felt as if it had tied my legs and hands to it's ends and then took a struggling, terrified and loudly screaming me and astonishingly, mercilessly threw me into the fire. Momentarily, I heard my petrified screams echoing into he serene ambiance and I remade my mind about my sweet little Bed!

But wonderfully, as I had changed my thoughts about my bed, I realized it was not to be so. My Magical Bed had actually done me a favor....one I will never forget ever.

As I entered the fire, I realized, it was a world, a world like any other, like a world on land, in water, in the sky so in fire too! The ambiance was like spring, not as I'd expected. There were people too....ummm....or maybe not. They were not people but yeah, some kind of living things.

The Fire Girl

As soon as I entered, I was welcomed by a flying, hand sized "speaking" computer. It flew and zoomed itself into my hands where it snuggled comfortably. It had lips and a tiny hand, just like animated mobiles and stuff we see on advertisements or net.

Then, I heard the most cutest of baby voices I'd ever heard, just like an infant speaking it's first few words! It said, "My name is Fireprobe. I will be your guide throughout your tour through the "Goldenfiresyc World". I think I should inform you robtee (that's what they call Miss, Ma'am or stuff like that) that people here are called Sycs and they speak a tongue unknown to you (Sycsi) so oblige me by letting me be your guide and interpreter."

I heard him and felt flattered. While I stood there thinking what I was to see next and what this journey had in store for me, Fireprobe guided me to a place which I think was a kind of restaurant so I could first eat something and continue my sojourn.

First let me tell you about the place where I stood. The floor looked like flowing fire but was not hot and neither liquid but solid. All around there was no sky but a kind of yellow light through which one could see no zenith or anything else but the eternal yellow glow.

As I asked Fireprobe where to move, he unexpectedly started laughing and asked, "Move, Robtee?...he...he..."

"Then what do we do. Just keep standing here like dumb?" I asked annoyed. Obviously Fireprobe realized my annoyance and explained.

"Here, no one moves. I mean people are born at a place and they live there throughout life. Whatever they need, they just summon it." Saying so, he said something strange, probably in their own language and Voila! there suddenly stood before me, a kind of building with doughnut doors.

I entered (actually it came towards me and engulfed me in its doors) excitedly. Then in the flick of a finger, we were seated on chairs and a menu floated towards me. It was like the ground, looked like a fluid but was solid yellow in color, the words floating above it.

Fireprobe read out the menu to me in English. Paper Mache, Paper cloves, paper Ice cream, papyrus paper butter and Papery Bread! yeah, people here ate different flavors of what we call paper on Earth.

Okay....so this much is enough today. To know more....about what I chose and what I ate and my further journey, keep reading my blog for I'll be posting the next part sooner than you know :)

Killer Maths

M- Mental

A- Ability

T- To

H- Handle

S-Strenuous Sums

Yea....that's what maths aka mathematics actually stands for. It's a deadly ghost, a hound that troubles me in all my nightmares, which usually consists of ghastly numbers jumping around with me trembling in the center.

It looks as if all these numbers and signs (addition +, Subtraction - etc.) are deadly tribal spirits waiting for the right moment to place their poisonous teeth on me when I create a mistake and kill me with their venom.

It's the toughest thing in life and most difficult. Yes, mathematics is. I just finished my exams, as you people know, and maths was the toughest of all. I did not get a wink of sleep the night before the math exam, ummm.... I should say I was afraid to sleep or I'd have another of those deadly math nightmares.

I do not know why a student needs to do maths. Wake up teachers!!!! This is the 21st century. The technological advancement is so very huge and human life is addicted to technology.

So why in this modern world, with various calculators, high-tech puzzle solvers, net helps and computers does a student need to do maths after all? Can he not survive in this world without it? and with the help of all these gadgets?

I am doing english, physics, chemistry, biology, geography, history.....but why MATHS??? Arrrgghhhh......I can still remember the day when I sat in the exam hall, scribbling away on sheets.....numbers unknown, calculations mistaken....no idea where the mind was, a math bug bit in the center, head screamed.....but I went on scribbling, afraid to close my eyes or faint!!!

I had a sip glasses of water just to satisfy my parched throat, though it was no respite, I'd say it was strength. I cannot tell you how much relief and sense of satisfaction I felt after submitting away my Mathematics paper, giving it all away for the teacher to bear and mark/grade.

And each year it's like this.....I HATE MATHS guys!!! It's a really really terrible nightmare for me. I cannot stand it....argghhhh :X

So anyone there to give me a suitable reason why I need to do maths....after all, there are so many calculators and stuff, why can I not just use them and be glad???

P.S- This post is in fond memory of my brain which died after remembering that tomorrow I'm gonna be shown the math paper. Before dying, it told me to apologize for posting so late and not commenting, all due to some movies I'd to catch up on and books I had to read.

May my brain lie in peace till the killer, mathematics is caught!

The Battle .....

It was a habitual war. A callous battlefield acclimatized with a multitude of completely fortified warriors all ready to shield. With much zest and fortitude I geared up to take my position. The only thought that occurred in my vigorous mind was that I had to win, and win at all costs!

Effusively equipped, I went to the battlefield, persuading my timorous self and filling it with the essential resilience and valor required. Reconstructing the winning techniques in my mind once again, I was determined and looked forward to my triumph.

As soon as I arrived at the gory battleground, I saw that there was a profuse hoard The Battleof people like me, with twinkling eyes, all glimmering with the light of gallantry and boldness while faces sneered at one another. They too, like me, were occupied ammunition and ready for the war to begin. With cold-blooded eyes, we stared at each other….until the war began…..

The scene The Battle changed as soon as the fight began in the swirl of a moment. I was taken aback with the swiftness and alacrity of all the warriors. Like me, they were all experienced too, I realized. It was going to be a remarkable struggle today then…..

All vigilant The Battlewarriors were ready at the precise moment, the war had begun! It was a never before sight. All others sneered and aimed. I looked for my target and finally caught sight of it. I ran as there were wings on my legs and gained momentum with every step. As soon as I reached my prey, someone else caught hold of it. Nooooo……I cried in dismay but my poise and self-assurance did not fortunately, leave me. I took hold of it as soon as I could. The other one pushed and pulled but certainly, I was mightier and much more indomitable.

I knew I had won, and then I felt it in my senses too, just like any other experienced professional….and I also understood that I was on war with an immature. I locked eyes with her and finally saw her strength wavering. Then….she let go…the victim was for me to keep! I victoriously waved it in the air and gave the poor loser a mocking smile, while the warrior looked down embarrassed.

I carefully handed over my victory trophy at the billing corner. “Your bill ma’am!”, a voice announced. I smiled and handed down the note. I knew the battle at the latesThe Battlet and promising branded fashion store was over and I had won. I The Battlecarried home another new embellishing dress and victoriously declared that I had won the fight at the Summer Discount Bonanza, once again!

Would love to know what you think about this latest battlefield story. This, if you realize (I am certain girls will!) is an unwavering fight you need to go through during every shopping spree you have a good shopping mall offering the Summer Discount!.....a gory ordeal or battle, for the first one to lay your hand upon the best clothes being sold at a low rate, eh?

The Magical Adventures - 2

The Magical Adventures

Reading your overwhelming response, to the previous part of this adventure, which can be read here.....I decided to post this as soon as possible! And hurray....I am done with it!

Et and I went inside the hall together. As I entered I actually realized it was not a hall but the principal city of the town. There were several shops scattered around in a haphThe Magical Adventuresazard way.

Like Et, there were several other Pocket Skyas (as their species is called). I realized the wrinkles here did not mean old age but were natural and attached with birth. The children stood near the parents while toddlers were carried in baskets.

It was a kind of huge bustling market which tempted me to take home a souvenir of this memorable place. But alas! I had no scopas (their currency) with me. Then again, Et came to my rescue. His stout fingers pointed towards the right and I read a blurry name reading Scopa Kanb.

"That is the Kanb (which is called bank on earth) where we store money. I am too wealthy and could happily give you some, Mistress!", he said with a cherishing smile. He bade me to wait where we stood while he took the money and came back in a jiffy.

With nothing to do, I started introspecting the intriguing ambiance. I saw hoards of Pocket Elves buzzing near one shoppe to another. The first shoppe that caught my eye was the Brainia Store. Here they sold human brains of dead people decorated artistically which I learnt the Elves used as home decorations.

I felt yucky and horrible at the thought of it but I was later informed that all humans who came to heaven happily donated their brains and those were decorating artifacts, as humans had no use of it now!

Then I saw another shoppe that said, "Comee Onee Commee All…To The Muckiiii Stallllll". Here the owner sold artistically adorned candles which captivated the viewer. I wondered why it was called mukckiii but later learnt that it was so because when the candle was burnt, it would burst into a huge ball of slickly, mucky liquid which was green and orange in color. This liquid would take strange and weird shapes which would momentarily disappear into the thin air! This, was given to young elves who used it to play pranks!

What mesmerized me the most was the Food Shoppe which sold various types of foamy liquids in a strange bowl. When Et returned, I first asked him to buy me a cup of Cloa-Cloa….the famous dish of Skysi World. As soon as I put it into my mouth, it kind of burst with a loud noise but there were no flames…instead, my mouth tickled it's taste buds with a strange flavor which melted soon but was most delighting. I ate five helpings of the dish but then Et told me that as a precaution to prevent obese elves, a sixth helping would explode the dish into flames…although dearly wanting to..I moved on.

Et smiled at me and lead me to Flora Stall. Here they sold strange purple and green and black flowers which were made of butterfly wings! It was the most pleasing sight I had ever seen. Thousands and thousands of butterfly-winged flowers all stacked together presented a scene that transfixed me.

Et bought me one in black with beautiful white spots and yellow markings. As soon as I held it in my hands and stared thrillingly stared at it for about a minute…the flower suddenly shriveled and the petals fell down on the flower. From these scattered petals emerged a volley of butterfly winged insects about the size of eagles. They circled me and bowed and flew away.

The Sleeping Girl & The Magical Adventures

I asked Et what had happened, but instead of an answer I heard my mom calling and telling me that the school bus had already left. I grumbled and sat up at another shattered dream wondering why after all, had she woken me up when the bus had already left.

Then mom said, "Get ready grumpy heart. As you are late, Dad will leave you on the way to office." I ran to the bathroom and while brushing, my hand stumbled past something in my night dress's pocket. It was a Cloa-Cloa but the size of an ant now.............

The Magical Adventures - 1

Hello to all! I decided it was about time I narrated to you another exciting experience on my magical bed! If you have not read any, you can read it by clicking on the links given at the end of the post.

I eagerly waited to be tucked into my cozy, sweet little bed and snooze away to glory! Then the lights went off and my eyes closed…to embark another fascinating adventure, to have another riveting journey and to add another story to my collection!

At the precise moment that my eyes closed….all went awry beside me and Voila! I was in another world, another place, in another time and away….This time my magic bed decided to send me to the heavenly abode, up above the sky! Yes, As I dreamily glanced around, I was momentarily spell-bound by the entrancing beauty of the ambience.

I am taken inside the White Clouds

Wonderful milky and foamy spotless white clouds drifted by me and as I looked down at my feet, I was standing on one myself!

"Welcome to the "Skysi World" madam, where may I take my honor?" a sweet, warm voice with brilliant echoed out of nowhere. I glanced around and eventually realized that the white cloud on which I stood was actually speaking to me.

I faltered and stuttered but finally managed to say, "Wherever you…you..may please. I wish to visit the chief area of this place if you may!".

The voice sounded again but this time as if with an impish grin and a mocking tone,

"Very well. As you say Madam I take you to the "Central Skip-pie Hall" where most of the sky world's hustle bustle is found."

With bated breath I finally embarked on the stimulating journey. Within five minutes, I reached the Hall while trying hard to balance myself during the speedy ride. "Here you go Madam, hope you enjoyed the ride!"

I smiled in appreciation and nodded my head, mouthing a thank-you because words would not utter themselves. As soon as he left, I glanced at a huge majestic castle standing tall and handsome before me. It bewitched me with it's opulence and exotic beauty.

I stood staring at when someone stirred me near the leg. I turned back but found no one. I looked down and LOL! There stood a tiny man, such a miniature being, short enough to fit into my coat pocket.

I bent down on my knees and smiled at the man, the man smiled back and said, "I was just asking you to make way. By the way, are you new here?"

"Oh yes, sure. Yes, I am. And may I know your name please?", I stammered again and replied.

"Welcome here madam. I was christened Etiojarg but people call me Et! I am a magician by profession, madam. Many people do not come here for a trip, so.... may I help you?" he asked in a sing-tone voice.

"ummm…yes…could you make me of your size? You see I come from the earth so I feel too gigantic here and may step upon some of your kind."

"My pleasure ma'am", he replied and took out what looked like a pen except that it had no nib nor cap. He drew something on my foot and the next moment I found myself shrinking and in a next few moments I was the size of the man next to me and could look directly at his face.

I realized that he was old with wrinkles protruding from everywhere. Instead of a mustache, he had cat whiskers on his face. His head as bald and shining as an egg and he wore strange clothes. His entire body was covered with what looked like golden rings…or…I realized he actually had no proper body but he was made of golden rings all intertwined and jumbled together. He wore a weird dress, something like a short robe, which was full of shapes on the top and lines at the bottom with strange vibrant colors I had never seen nor heard of………

I will continue my exciting tale in the next post tomorrow as my mom is calling me right now to complete that unfinished home-work…until then keep waiting with bated breath to know what happened to me!

In A Bid To Help Our Humanity .....

Equality amidst all, every human is our brother…..we have all been taught this; but have we ever done our bit to help humanity? It is worthless if you do not contribute in spreading the feeling of brotherhood and helping our mankind.

While you ponder over this, I have penned down how I could do that! I have a really marvelous and as usual, there is a streak of insanity in my creation too…..

I have always seen bony, weak structures [who in no way look human] dressed in rags. They dwell upon the side streets and call it their abode. These people live in such poverty and are so impoverished that they do not have money to wear clothes that can cover the body or to buy food that can fulfill their hunger.

Looking at them, do you not have pity and sympathy for them? Have you not always wanted to help them and make our country a better one? Yes, we all have! And to fulfill my desire, I will outshine the stars too…..

I would become a scientist and create and invention that stirs the world. An invention that can be of extraordinary use to humanity...an invention that can help all in need…an invention which abolishes hunger and poverty…an invention which benefits all!

Yes, you heard it correct! I would stand all day through in that stuffy little room [laboratory] with a green test tube in one hand and a red one in the other…watching the flames that burst when I mix them and the fireworks, I would endure! I would be called an insane, crazy scientist but I wouldn't care until I'd have completed my breath taking invention!

Now that it stirs your exciting nerves, I would tell you what it would be called! The name of my unique machine would be "The Ray Of Good Hope". It would be the silver lining in the sky for my fellow humans.

Now, what is it you ask? Okay….Now it's time I slid that black cloth from over my inimitable device. It would be a small compact machine with a red and a green button. With the press of a red button, the device would emit a golden beam which, if falls on any object (mind you, anything, I say!) could make it double it's original size. Yeah…a single grain of rice, could grow into a gigantic mountain, providing food for thousands of people!

It could abolish slums and provide a proper dwelling place, clothes and food for all. Wouldn't that be fabulous? This machine would make every person on Earth live a dignified life and would spread equality and brotherhood among all!

Being a little covetous, I would like to actually live in the small card house I've made at home! Just scared the wind doesn't blow too hard! I would also have loads of candies, chocolates and ice-creams…Wow! That's what I call "life"!

Being a benevolent girl, I would allow free usage of my machine to every needy person. Now, have I told you what the green button is for? The green button would be to rectify the mistake of any person and return the object to it's original size! So there's no chance of ill handling! (You see how intelligent I am??!)

Okay friends, I got to go now….And bury my head into the huge Science Book! After all, I have to work hard to complete my invention and the next time, I'll be sure to be back with some more of my unique creations….

Until then, goodbye…..

I have the power to dream......

People are happy and so merry
And life is as sweet as cherry

Ice creams, chocolates everywhere
No one’s heart can ever tear

Nobody sheds a single tear
For life to them, is very dear

A canopy of lush green trees
From the abysmal hold of mankind it frees

The nightingale sings it’s melodious song
The birds joining in along, before long

Squirrels frolic happily in the grass
Without a smile you can’t pass

These wonderful sights in my eyes gleam
Because I have the power to dream
Because I have the power to dream…….

Up...Up and Above!

One morning, I woke up lazily from bed as the bright morning sunshine streamed into my room. I gave a big yawn and lazily got up and went near the window. The early morning scene outside has always delighted me. It looks as if the image every nature lover paints on his canvas. An exact replica of what I want the earth to be!

And then again, I saw the sweet little birds sitting high on the branch of the tree and singing their melodious tune. And then suddenly, as if there was some confusion, a bird flew into the sky, flapping it’s feather’s vigorously! Without thinking or even knowing what I was doing, I opened the window and jumped out in pursuit of the bird. Thankfully my room was on the ground floor, but….but…why do I say so? Because I didn’t fall on the ground with a terrible thud and have my body imprinted on the soft mud but miraculously, I rose up.

I stretched my hands, slowly yet steadily, and when both were fully stretched, I stood kept on moving…amazed! I was in the air, wow! The cool air brushed past my face, flooding my mind with a new zest and vigor. I flew in the air….as if there was no tomorrow…as if there was no one around…as if I was……I was really content.

But then, a sudden thought struck my mind. “I have always seen those with supernatural powers do this. Only humans who are, but Superheroes do this…isn’t it?”, I asked myself, suddenly fearing this new responsibility. “So, have I become a superhero, who saves the world or something?” I asked myself. As if in answer, I saw a green light gleaming in the vast sky to my right. I followed the trail and there I heard a voice which exclaimed, “Dear daughter, you have been blessed with the power to fly. But it will not remain so forever…..This is only for a day, so go…go now and enjoy yourself!

I was happily puzzled, but I knew I had no time to ponder now! I knew I had to go down soon and get ready for school. I flew down, decreasing my speed as the altitude decreased. Initially, my ride was a little wobbly but now, I improved. I got ready soon and wishing good bye to my parents, went to the side street waiting for my school bus. The bus driver, as a nasty and lazy man he was, was late once again! The third day in a row! I was irritated but had no choice except waiting. But not today, “why not fly to school, eh?”

And that’s just what I did. I went round the corner and when there was nobody around. I rose from the ground. A bit by bit when at last, I was in the free sky! I looked down and saw the bustling streets, the cars, buses and yeah, my bus….which went on speeding, when they couldn’t find me! I felt an inner sense of pleasure when I realized how easy it was up here. I didn’t experience or have to fear of rushing into another body except the small birds! I could fly at any speed I wanted and thus reached school in time.

I could not really contain myself but had to wait until recess so I could tell my friends about this! And yeah, their faces went green when they heard about this. I showed my new power to them too. Hoards of children collected around me, everyone shouting slogans in my favor. Suddenly, I had become a celebrity. Children wanted my autographs, and some asked me to tell them how the experience was. Some requested me to take them and some asked me what was there in the sky……

I enjoyed my sudden popularity and took it to my full benefit. I took the small kids on a ride with me. “Yipppeeeee” they screeched with joy and their beaming faces ran to their friends. After school I flew back home and after finishing my home work, I went out to enjoy. I went up in the night sky, the starry lit sky. I went near the stars and saw how huge they were. They had bright light on their edges and I waved to their smiling faces. I got a beaming smile and wave in return. I then flew to Uncle Moon, who smiled his gentle smile and showered his blessings upon me. Ecstatically, I enjoyed every bit of this new capability.

I was enjoying myself to the core of my heart and forgot the count of time. It was after midnight that my energy was drained and I went back to my room. I lay in my bed, thanking Lord for this most wonderful day in my life. I had a content smile etched on my face, as I slept and my dreams were full of the smiling stars and the good, Uncle Moon!

I always keep looking at birds in the sky. They spread their exquisitely beautiful wings and soar high up into the sky. They fly over the whole world and look down and see the humans as we see ants. They have freedom in the sky, as much as freedom as anyone ever craves to have!

Wow! How good their life is. Birds are my favorite animals and whenever I look at them, the only thing I can say is, “I wish I could fly too!” But, I know I’m not like that elephant in that famous Indian Folktale who dreams to soar in the sky and often tries strange antiques for this purpose! I know I can’t put banana leaves on my palms and jump from a high cliff, flapping my arms as if they were wings. I am not that stupid, eh?

But so what if I can’t fly in reality? I have always got the power…the right to dream, have I not?

The Shining Stars

The stars shining brightly

Millions and millions of them

Twinkling in the hazy sky

They look like a faraway gem

They are so lovely

Forming new things in the sky

Sometimes it’s a scorpion

Sometime a butterfly!

I just wish they were a bit nearer

That I could extend my hands and touch them

Feeling the tenderness and affection of their touch

And happiness in my life, they’d condemn!

I wish I could catch them

And decorate them in my home

These twinkling, shining little beauties

Would lay embedded in my heart’s dome!

The Prince!

He cried when he saw them

The children at the park

Playing and playing and having fun

Where he could not make his mark

He looked at them with eyes

That were glistening with envy

Oh how he wished to be there too

With remorse he said, Oh Lord! Why me?

He kept looking from day to dawn

Until the game was over

And until a harsh sound he heard

Calling him down for dinner

How could he forget?

That a royal prince he was

Who could not even have the pleasure

Of even walking on the wet moss

How could he forget?

That the Palace was his only home

And the world outside the window

Was but a covered dome

He never could play in the sun

Nor even in the sparkling rain

Not when the trees shed their leaves

Or the Earth became a white plane

He was always provided with luxury

The best a man could get

His parents thought the Prince was happy

Not knowing happiness he had never met

Money could not buy everything

But who would make them understand?

The desire of this little child; who was tagged a Prince

But in his heart and soul he remained a young hand!

People must have always thought how much fun the life of a Prince or Princess would be. But have you ever looked at the other side of the coin?

The School Of My Dreams!

Every institution has a head of its own. And my school too has a head mistress. A strict yet kind and compassionate lady! She is a great woman but I have at times dreamt about what would happen if this school was run by me? Oh yes, this is what I’m writing about today!

I can imagine standing on that big podium in front of the mike addressing a number of chattering school girls. My first attempt would be to try to make them silent but after a few tries, I retrieve. After all, I too had been a child. What is the harm in letting these excited girls talk for a few minutes before assembly? They are meeting their friends after a two day weekend and they would have so much to tell! So why not allow them?

After sometime, the noise would vanish by itself as the girls become ready to pray. After asking God to shower His holy blessings upon them, they begin the day with the divine blessings of Lord! But as you would imagine them going to classes and beginning studies, I have something else under my sleeves!

The school would not be that same old building with dull colors. It will be all in pink and blue and yellow and bright vibrant colors. I would name it “Fun-Time”. After all, childhood is the best phase of life so I would let the kids enjoy themselves instead of burdening them with loads of books and studies and home-work. I would abolish the system of home-work. A child studies for at least five hours in school so how do you expect him to do her home work too, along with these studies?

I would shorten the duration of every class. Instead of a 30 minutes class, I would make it a 15 minute class. How long can a child look at the same teacher and the same numbers or words. Everyone needs a change and the sooner, the better! I would give a 2 hour interval where the kids can eat a relishing meal and enjoy themselves…play, run about, scream or anything else they want to do!

As you’d expect me to be, instead of a teacher or head-mistress, I would be a friend of the kids. I would help them out in their troubles and try to solve their day-to-day problems. I’d open a Counseling Committee where the kids could consult good teachers about their problems. I would also open a lavish library with a variety of books so the shy ones could enjoy themselves in the company of their good friends.

There would be no examinations and tests until the 10th grade when the student becomes adult enough to handle the examination pressure and enter the competitive world outside. Until then, I would teach the kids to think out of the box. I would try to develop their creative talents and engage them in a variety of extra-curricular activities which they can enjoy!

I would open an Activity Center with a big sports field and gym for the athletes. There would be a T.V room so a child would not miss her favorite programs due to school. But a child would only be allowed to watch a half an hour show during the whole school time. This means I would underline the importance of self-discipline but not lay stress upon the students.

My school would be a place where the kids could enjoy themselves and learn too, but not from those heavy text-books but with interactive teachers and natural surroundings. My school of dreams would be a place where every child would like to be. It would change the meaning of school for every kid, instead of boring studies and stuff; it would be a place of friendship, joy and merriment!
