Deep Darkness

Happiness had been a significant part of Leona’s life. Being the only daughter of her parents she had got every exquisite thing she had yearned for.But now her life had taken a difficult toll. Her recent arguments with her friends and family had led her to see another part of life which had been alien to her until now. Sadness and loneliness had stepped into the pretty picture of her life.

While dejectedly returning home from school after missing her bus, Leona was kicking stones on the road. It was an abandoned path with no other soul in sight. But when Leona looked forward she saw a pretty young girl of about her age coming from the opposite side of the road. But something which truly defined her beauty was her lovely and deep dark blue eyes.

When the girl passed by Leona she pushed her by mistake. She apologized to Leona but now anger had taken hold of her.. “Are you blind? Can’t you see and walk?” shouted Leona angrily at the girl.

The poor girl suddenly burst into a volley of tears. Leona’s heart sank as she realized that the girl she was talking to was……..was…….was really blind.

The girl was named Karen, as Leona later learnt. Now Leona and Karen are the best of friends ever born. They have an unbreakable bond of friendship.

Their friendship began the day they encountered each other on the abandoned road. That day, after Leona broke Karen’s heart she sat down on a nearby bench and apologized to her. Then they began chatting endlessly, losing all scope of time.

Leona learnt that Karen was born in a poor family and was blind by birth. She couldn’t study even till high school and she had a great dream to go to college. But she wasn’t discouraged by her disability.

Karen had to face various other difficulties in life but she fought them courageously and gallantly. She still smiled through tough times and even when her eyes showed her nothing except deep darkness for eternity.

Learning about Karen’s life, Leona realized what a good life she had been blessed with. She had good friends, a good family and everything else she yearned for. She learnt to look at the brighter side of life and live life jubilantly.

Leona has seen a cheerful and blissful life through the eyes of a blind girl who can see nothing except deep darkness even in which she finds happiness!

Hi Meghna,

You are again here with a new wonderful story. I loved the fact that the blind girl sees the world through the eyes of her new friend.

I think you've become a complete writer.

Cheers!

Dear peterpie,
Yes, the helping nature of the girl is what the story is about. Thanks.

Nice one:-) like the way you narrated the story. it is very beautiful - the way the blind opens the heart of the one who can see - and it echoes back the rhetorical question - who is really blind?

Meghna

Hi xh,
I'm glad you went into the depth of the story and enjoyed it. I believe people who are blind are those who can see but can't see the happiness in their lives!
