The Indian Festival of Colors

This is the time to rejoice and have fun, the time for celebration and festivity, a time for union of everyone! Yes, this is festival time all over our country, India. This festival is called Holi and I am all in the mood of it on this 21st of March. It is colors and sweet delicacies everywhere. Red, green, yellow, blue….Wow!

Now, now, I know all those who do not know about this festival must be thinking that I am going crazy but guys, it is not so! Holi is also called the Festival of Colors and is one of the most popular spring festivals of India. On the first day we light bonfires in the death of night to signify the end of evil….while everyone eagerly waits for the second day to arrive! On the second day people throw colored powder and water at each other and enjoy themselves. The faces and dresses of people become unrecognizable smeared with bright, vibrant colors.

Old friends and relatives come together and enjoy the festival! It is certainly a great time for merry making and fun! It is a colorful and gay festival and one of the best Indian festivals for me! Happy Holi to all you friends who enjoyed their Holi and also to those who read this post!

Happy Holi :D

The Prince!

He cried when he saw them

The children at the park

Playing and playing and having fun

Where he could not make his mark

He looked at them with eyes

That were glistening with envy

Oh how he wished to be there too

With remorse he said, Oh Lord! Why me?

He kept looking from day to dawn

Until the game was over

And until a harsh sound he heard

Calling him down for dinner

How could he forget?

That a royal prince he was

Who could not even have the pleasure

Of even walking on the wet moss

How could he forget?

That the Palace was his only home

And the world outside the window

Was but a covered dome

He never could play in the sun

Nor even in the sparkling rain

Not when the trees shed their leaves

Or the Earth became a white plane

He was always provided with luxury

The best a man could get

His parents thought the Prince was happy

Not knowing happiness he had never met

Money could not buy everything

But who would make them understand?

The desire of this little child; who was tagged a Prince

But in his heart and soul he remained a young hand!

People must have always thought how much fun the life of a Prince or Princess would be. But have you ever looked at the other side of the coin?

But…We are Just Kids!

Rita was very excited when her friends decided to go for a picnic this Sunday. All night she did not get a wink of sleep thinking about how much fun they would have at the picnic! She was bursting with joy and cheerfulness.

The next morning they had packed and left early. After lunch all her friends were relaxing under the warm, shimmering sun. Suddenly a petty boy dressed in rags passed by them. With greedy eyes, he eyed the kids and the lavish lunch they had. Daniela turned her eyes toward the poor boy and passed a sarcastic comment.

“Poor boy…..you want something? Hey, what do you think we are? We are giving you nothing so move on guy!” thus saying, she and her friends broke into a cruel laughter. The boy turned his head but Rita had already seen the tears glistening from his eyes.

Rita did not enjoy the nasty joke by Daniela. Her heart was now filled with anguish.

“Daniela, I think what you said was wrong. Your parents have provided you with everything you need, lavish clothes, a great house and wonderful schooling and delicious meals. But does that give you the power to make fun of those who are not as fortunate as you? I believe not. I thank you should apologize to that guy there!” Rita demanded.

The boy turned towards Rita and a fake smile appeared on his lips which was yet to be seen in his eyes. “Hey Rita The Sympathetic. What’s the problem with you, huh? Did I say anything to you???” snapped Daniela.

“I have always stood and will always stand for what is right….and I do not care if I am even against you. I do not know what kind of joy you receive in mocking these poor guys. Have you ever seen how much of inner sense of contentment and bliss you would receive if you helped them out.”

“But we are just kids. What can we do?” replied Daniela with a matter of fact tone.

“So what if you are just kids? You are getting everything, are you not? Would it not be better if you shared these things with the inopportune?” Rita took out a chocolate from her pocket and handed it to the guy who kept looking. He grabbed the chocolate and ran away with a huge smile of satisfaction on his face and his eyes shimmering with joy. “This gift of a warm smile will replace
every material thing of life.”

Daniela stared dumbly at Rita’s face and then her empty hands. She knew Rita was right. But Daniela was not the one to give up a fight so easily. “But when adults don’t care, why should we?” She retorted.

Now it was Rita’s turn to stare back silently. What could she say? Just that there were two kinds of people on earth. One who followed the right path and others who took the evil road.

But now that you have read this story, you have got to promise me something. You all have to promise me that you will never let a child sit quietly when someone asks her such a question. Promise me that all of you will be ones who stand as an example for all those nasty kids like Daniela. Promise me that you all will help us to vanquish poverty. Promise me that you will be the ones who take the true path in life……………

A Great Surprise

I told you all that I will be back with a bang! And here I am!

I have turned 13 few weeks ago but did not inform you all; and my sincere apologies for that. But actually I was angry that day, thus I decided not to write about it on my blog.

Now, it is natural for you all to ask why a young girl would be angry on her special day. The reason was that my parents did not give me any gift…Yes, you heard it correct! I kept waiting from dawn to dust, my parents wished me, took me out for a lavish dinner and I spent a great day but without any gift.

I was really angry with them, but they had different thoughts in mind. As my exams are over now, my parents have given me the great surprise gift. My joy knew no bounds when I heard about this! My parents have allowed me to open another blog! Hurray!

After my first stint in blogging, I had dearly wanted to open another blog. But at that time, my parents had refused seeing the long time I spent on the computer! But now, they have granted their permission and I have decided to make full use of this opportunity. Though, I have also promised them that I would spend a fixed time on the net.

Nevertheless, I am really happy about opening this blog! I am struggling hard to work up to my capability. I have opened this new blog in blogger and it is named 'The Writing Pages'.

The new blog is about writing, writing & writing. In this, I would love to discuss all aspects of writing I know about and come across, some interesting books which I read, few lesser known facts about the famous authors behind these books etc. I also try to include some thing about writing prompts, writing aids ........ and what not! I am certain that I have many posts in store which will amuse and interest you.

I hope you all will visit it and share your thoughts with me about it! Eagerly waiting for you to read it and provide your valuable opinion!

Hurray!

Those Days Are Gone ....

Hello friends! Yes, you have guessed it right….My exams are over!

Gone have those sleepless nights when I kept drumming my brain over those boring textbooks, days when I wrote on long sheets of paper for only two hours which seemed like days…..all is over now!

I’m sure my brimming happiness is conveyed to you all thorough this post! I’m glad to be back to blogging, reading your comments and reading other great blogs! Life seems like real fun now……

I’ve also come up with a short poem to express my joy. Here it goes:

Those Days Are Gone!!!

Those days are gone
When I awoke all night
Studying and studying
With all my might!

Those days are gone
When I was full of fear
And long sheets of paper
With ink I’d smear

Those days are gone
When I had no time
Because blogging during exams
Would have surely been a crime

Those days are gone
And I am free again
My exams are over
And I am back on my train!

Those days are gone………….

I hope you enjoyed reading this poem. And of course, with renewed zeal and vigor I will soon be back to writing stories and posts! I am really thankful for all those good wishes I got for my exams. They were a real motivation!

Now that my exams are over, my head is brimming with new ideas and stories for my blog. I am longing to pen them down and present them before you! I am surely glad to be back!

Hurray!
