Enjoy The Festival Of Lights- Happy Diwali!

DIWALI, all my Indian friends must have a smile on their faces at this name but for my foreign (firangi) friends this might be gibberish!

India is all lit up and decorated as a bride these days. Glowing diyas and candles, fireworks, loads of yummy sweets (ummmm.....MOM!!!) and nice gifts. That's all that comes to mind during Diwali.

I have got a week off for Diwali, but as usual, I haven't touched a book! I (actually the whole family) am really busy in decorating the house, helping mum, loads of crazy shopping sprees, saying sorry to dad for the big hole in his pocket and wishing friends and family!

Okay, for all those who do not know about the festival, I quote from Wikipedia coz I am not really very good about the technical and "actual" definition!

Deepavali, or Diwali is a major Indian festival, and a significant festival in Hinduism, Sikhism and Jainism. Many legends are associated with Diwali. Today it is celebrated by Hindus, Jains and Sikhs across the globe as the "Festival of Lights," where the lights or lamps signify victory of good over the evil within every human being.

And now, to all my friends- A VERY HAPPY DIWALI!

I'm gonna have loads of fun!! But am not burning crackers this year. And it is not because of dad or mum or teachers. It's because of the devastating news I have been reading in newspapers these days. And mum and dad are certainly happy with me. I'm having loads of sweets....my favorite- kaaju ki barfi!

I am now going off to help bro put the lights. There's too much ruckus in the house to write more right now! But before going, I made a sketch for diwali, I've included it below and

HAPPY HAPPY DIWALI!

May the diyas and lights, enlighten your lives too :)

Nidz

hey nice sketch..
happy diwali to u too

I am a lover of children's literature

I love India, I love the land, I love it's history and I especially love the people. In many ways, India, like all countries, is just like every other country, including my own, Canada, and my adopted one - Germany.

However, Diwali certainly brings to my mind, that in many other ways, India is far different from my own beloved Canada. Diwali, I'm sure, is also celebrated here by the Indian community, but generally speaking, it's completely unknown to the majority of Canadians including little old me.

When I have time, I will definitely have to look it up on Wikipedia, but in the meantime, I hope all people in India, especially my talented Meghna, will have a safe and happy Diwali.

Just don't eat too many cookies - at least save me some for me! You can email me any left over Diwali cookies later, ok?

Oh, by the way, I will have you know that I have a big, big mouth, a very big mouth, so therefor, a big, big patch of Diwali cookies would be very much appreciated. I promise I won't get any crumbs on the floor just because I"m dumb, so why wait - you can just email them to me NOW!.
