The Miraculous Escape!

girl crying

"No...how could it happen? I have not even passed college yet!" Erma cried, trying hard to hold back those stinging tears.

"Control yourself dear. Everything will be fine soon", her Aunt consoled, "However, she still lives in your heart and mind and will be laying her holy hands above you from up there", she said, pointing towards the ever vast, shimmering blue sky.

Erma rushed into her room with all the strength she had and slammed the door shut before flailing into bed. Her mom had blood cancer and had been in the hospital lately. She had been going regularly to visit her for hours, with books to read to her and flowers with everlasting fragrance which still faded into her memory.

She had visited her just yesterday and those blue mesmerizing eyes still lingered behind in her memory. Those enchanting eyes had watched her first step, her young toothy grin, her teenage tantrums...but now..now they left behind those indelible memories.

Erma sobbed inconsolably....she watched those tears dampening her hands and remembered how her mom used to wipe them with her loving touch, how she used to remind her these were precious gems not to be wasted on someone not worthy enough....but today she knew she let them go for the most noble and suitable of all.

Watching their lively and enthusiastic friend driven deep into a curtain of aloofness and sorrow, in a serene ambience and with ever so read eyes, her friends decided to help her out. They planned for a picnic which they hoped would return that lovely smile. After a lot of persuasion and the fervor shown by her dad, Erma finally agreed.

That weekend the small group of friends left by her car with Dave at the driver's seat. The car buzzed with eager, juvenile voices singing picnic songs and was occasionally bathed with the glimmer of Erma's smiles.

Everyone was enjoying thyself when the car skidded towards the left. Dave pressed hard at the brake pedal but the car was out of bounds. Under the blazing Sun shining inequitably, the car took a plunging dive into the shimmering blue waters of the river.

The river was on the verge of becoming the abode of the lifeless car and it's dead occupants when suddenly, Erma stirred.... she looked around and feverishly tried for the door. Miraculously, it opened. Erma jumped into the deep waters, swimming with the last ounce of energy which was left in her.

When Erma opened her eyes, a few days later, she found herself lying on her cozy bed.

Seeing her stir, her father cried, "Oh dear! I'm glad you opened your eyes at last!", but with sudden sorrow in his voice he said, I'm sorry princess but all your friends died in the accident. You are the only one who was saved alive by the local cruisers. Oh dear! I just cannot thanks my lucky stars!"

But Erma knew it was not the lucky stars to thank but her mom. She knew what her aunt had said was correct....her holy hand always blessed her and was there for her...she just needed courage to grab them and stare deep into her mesmerizing blue eyes.

I am a lover of children's literature

As usual, this is another wonderful little story. I lost both of my parents to cancer, so I guess I can identify with it.

After reading it, I can't help but think, how long will it be before your a published book author?

Hopefully, not long.

In the meantime, I will be waiting to see your books reviewed in the New York Times. Until then, I shall continue to read and enjoy your blog.

Ohhh my, that was touching and made my heart bob up and down in sadness. but i did enjoy reading it and believe you have talent to work with! Such magic, the story! I loved how you said she just had to reach out and grab it. I believe you must, if you lose some one you dearly love, reach out to the sky and make it their hands, think of them, though never waste tears on them; for they if were alive wouldn't like to see you wasting your time and mucking about, they'd like to see you doing spectacular things that would make them proud.
You inspire me Meghna, thanks for sharing..... INCREDIBLE... INCREDIBLE...
